I'm curious as to how the silicones are made. I understand (if I'm right?) that the mould is taken of the ooak, then the silicone is poured. Does the artist then have to colour and paint the silicone as if it was a ooak and is this very time consuming? Presumably for every one out of the edition? Sorry for the questions, just like to learn about stuff dollchitchat/5lo.gif

Thats Correct, the moulding usually takes three to four weeks, this procedure spoils the original OOAK , then when we get the silicone parts we have to clean all trace of releasing agent of it, then prepare the surfice for painting, but we generally root the hair first, and yes it takes a long while to get the doll ready, dollchitchat/33.gif dollchitchat/33.gif

I have discovered a boo boo on one of my silicones (NOT my Lullabies! laugh.gif ) and want to ask you ladies (Janet, Susi or Carol) whether the boo boo I found is regarded as a serious boo boo if I have to sell the baby, which I most likely will do - actually I think that it has been there from the very start when he was pourred by Michelle Fagan for Heather Boneham, I don't know - it is very easy to ignore, as at first sight you will not see that there is anything wrong at all, I only discovered it because I stretched his bent legs a little - it is only one leg that has got this boo boo. Please have a look and give me your opinion if possible:

Hi Karen, I cant see very clearly from your photo but is it definately a boo boo or could it be the artist has made a deep groove in the sculpt, in which case the silicone will pick it up (as I said I cant see very clearly from the pic but assuming there is a tear there). If it is a boo boo you could try and just put a small amount of silicone in the join and hold it together, providing you use the same silicone as the doll is made of it should set. Also make sure it is cleaned with acetone so that there is no contamination there. PM me if you need any help x

Thanks for your quick reply Susi, I shall try to take another picture in daylight tomorrow to show you!!! However, I shall not be able to do the repair, as I haven't got any silicone, do not know what type of silicone that was used, and do not know how to work with silicone. - You see, I did not buy the doll directly from the artist. I am just wondering why the boo boo cannot be seen when the leg is bent, as it normally i?!

Further to my posting yesterday, I will add some pics:

It must be a boo boo, and it must have been there from the start.

Does it have to be repaired with silicone? - if so, I shall not be able to repair it.
Isn't there any type of glue that will work?

In your opinion, how much will such a boo boo reduce the value of the doll if I chose to sell him?
He is a lovely little boy that looks veeery newborn, but he is made from perfumed silicone, and I just can't tolerate the smell - I guess most ladies will think that he smells lovely like peaches.

susi- 01-19-2008
Karen something must have been added to the silicone to make it smell as the silicone I use which is dragonskin hasnt got a sweet smell. where do you live Karen if its not too far perhaps I could have a look at him for you. You could always contact Heather to see if there is anything she can do.
