I love Japan, Karen, and it's generally quite safe. Much safer than Canada now that gun crimes are on the rise as are more violent crimes like bus stabbings. Plus, the public transportation system in Japan is not only safe, but convenient. And the postal service is excellent, the grocery stores are very nice and I'm trying to write a book (will have to see how far I get with that! haha!).

I doubt very much I will be leaving anytime soon. I don't know where I would go!

Shawnah, your writing a book? Do you have a Synopsis yet? is it fact or fiction?

It's fiction, but it's a bit scattered at the moment. I have the synopsis complete and am ironing out the kinks in the backstory. It's organized enough in my head, but on paper? Well, um...

Well all i have to say is THANKYOU...for capturing this wonderful moment
and experience.. I will probably never go to Japan but you sure captured
the delightful essence of the place and going to an authentic Japanese restaurant.

As far as writing is concerned..Shawnah is most definitely a talented
and creative writer.. I started out that way thirty years
ago.. In High School I had articles published and wrote
poetry and even came back and wrote a whole book on my escapades
and trip to Europe when I was seventeen.. My mother burned
my book.. At least that's what i think she did.. I only know
that when I went away to college I hid my book manuscript in a special
case.. and when I came home one weekend.. it was GONE She
was very controlling and judgemental.. and interfering and always
sticking her nose into my phone calls and letter and personal business.
She never admitted to disposing of my book.. Boy it sure would
have been lovely to have that recording of my teenage adventures
in Europe 38 years ago.. She had a hand in stifling my creative
urges..And even guilt tripped and shamed me into changing
my college major from Journalism to Business before school even
started.. Lecturing me about some rubbish she'd heard about
a Liberal Arts Education being a 'waste'.. Can't make any money
get a business degree instead..Well I listened to her advice.
I never liked busines.. I am telling you this so
you go after your dream and what you were meant to do.. And if
you weren't meant to be a writer. Shawnah I don't know who is..

I'm spending a year studying in Japan from next September ~ I'm most worried about the flight though. I think I'll get mega lost in the airports!

My friend in Japanese class says Kyoto is really beautiful ~ he didn't want to come back to the uk!

Awwghhh! Shawna ... I have written quite a bit ... business stuff on Computer Systems during the 70/80/90's ; Computer training; a Securities and Investment Handbook for Financial Advisers (over 1/2 million copies!) and some real fiction - but fiction never is! there is always an element or elements, of reality experiences related to the author.

My fictional purpose was "to highlight speed mixed with horses".

The narrative detailed a number of families/their lives until BANG! an MPV came around a slight bend, much too fast and hit the horse head on - as it was a Renault MPV the bonnet was short and the horses head crashed through the windscreen - two of the children, one in a toddler 5 point car seat and, one in adult lap and diagonal sitting on a booster - had slipped out of their straps ! oh! dear ... granny and grandad survived, but what for?

It was quite popular and 6 months later the Horse Whisperer came out! a derivative maybe!

Now I prefer writing short articles, 1,000 words - accompanied by my best 6 photos to illustrate the article!

And, to be honest, the airports aren't all that bad especially since you are studying Japanese. I still only know fragments and have been here four years. I've lived in Hokkaido, Shikoku and Hyogo. My fave cities are Kyoto and Kobe, but there are many beautiful places. Since I got cats I don't travel as much as I used to.
