I hope to show pictures of my Japanese lunch very soon (in the next few days). It was SO good!
I didn't get pics of the market, but there were just as many foreigners there as Japanese people - boooooring!

good show Shawnah, glad you had a good birthday day out. I have been sifting through many pics to paint (I chose an old mill...dont ask!) and Japan had SO many great ones....found some good sites. Kyoto is gorgoeus...the path pic you sent me before of course a fave of mine.
SOMEday i will have to see the beautiful country you live in, wow....it is amazing! cant wait for more pics.

Here are the pictures...
First, the meal (very Japanese-like with all the little dishes. I had already started eating when I remembered I had to take a picture - oops!)
The rice with the black beans on top was in a VERY cool box! The kanji on top is "one-hundred" and is the older version (it has since been modernized):

And here are some pictures of the restaurant itself. It was once an old house and little doorways and hidden rooms - VERY cool!!! There was a garden in there as well.
This is how they steam the rice - SO cool!!! And very old...

It's interesting to see how different cultures live...all those small plates and little portions...I realise a little bit of everything may add up to a lot but do Japanese people on the whole eat less than say here in the uk and America?
