Hi hi ^_^

Okay, I'm one of the ones that loves**** to redress my himstedt doll, "Gretchen" while i am keeping her box, and certificate/orig. outfit etc, i have no plans on *ever* parting with her, so while re-dressing and re-doing her hair might lower her value, It's not my main issue,

but I'm wondering about styling her, or any other himstedts hair so if you don't mind helping me out with a few Q&A ^^ maybe someone else here might find it useful as well? but it'd be appreciated ^^ ....... but here are my questions if you all don't mind ^_^

---I've heard some people have actually changed the wig on their himstedt dolls, Is this easy to do? how does one go abouts this?

--- Himstedt dolls have real human hair, do you think curling irons/shampooing etc would be okay? what about hairspray? conditioner?

--- The part!!! one of the hardest things about redoing Gretchens hair, is the part down the middle, I cant for the life of me, figure out how to put her hair in a regular ponytail, or a side ponytail, or even half and half, without the part showing, or looking like her hair was just tossed up "80's style" with hair sticking out everywhere.... has anyone found a way around this? or any tips to share? I had less of a problem with Mririda for some reason, her hair seemed more easier to do, but i'm struggling with gretchen,

(the main reason i originally asked the first question about the wig, is i want to be able to put her hair up in more diff. ways, other than pigtails/down or braids, but the only way i can see of getting around the part entirely is through getting an new wig)

and last but not least ^^ if anyone has any pics of how you might have re-styled your himstedt dolls hair, i'd just love to see them!!!

anyways hope i wasnt asking too much here, or that you wouldnt mind sharing some info ^^ but in any case thank you!!! ^_^ dollchitchat/AddEmoticons1093.gif dollchitchat/vdaybouncies3.gif dollchitchat/bearthrowingkisses.gif

Hi,
I immediately re-styled Kidas hair :) It was stiff and oddly bent so I dampened it with a spray bottle and after covering her eyes with a towel so I would not melt the lashes) I applied a bit of frizz ease and gel and blew it dry and it became,e soft and swingy and the shine was restored. it also eased the line of the part so i have more less obvious options :)
She had batting between the wig and her vinyl scalp. rewigging would be easy- simply gently remove the wig and applying a new one in the same way- stuffing if she has it and a bit of Aleenes tacky glue dotted around the head- not too much or it will seep through. Love to play with her!!!
Wish I had had more time lately! :)

a belated Thanks qzinc for your reply ^_^ (We're in the middle of moving so havent had a chance to be online much lately) I'll really have to try that though, and see how it turns out, Gretchen's hair has been a bit hard for me to restyle lately...

when you say "Simply gently remove the wig" I'm just wondering, how would one "Gently remove" a wig on a himstedt doll? they seem to be completely secured onto their heads.....?

Not sure about removing her wig...would seem like starting at one spot and lifting gently...maybe use a dull knife??..then work all theway around the edges until it comes off.
As for Gretchen's wig,I turned her upside down and brushed the hair all straight down and it took away a lot of the part. A curling iron and dryer is supposed to be ok if used GENTLY..not too hot. Just using water works best for me when working with these wigs. Good luck and let us see how she turns out??

Can you wash and/or condition hair? If so how do you wash the hair without the water getting on the face?

Also be careful not to get the wig cap wet, Kathryn. As far as I understand it, one washes the hair VERY carefully... but I've never done it.
