Hello Ladies
I put this question in yesterday but i think now i put it in the wrong section. What sizes do these beautiful little girls wear. Do they wear childrens wear from shops or are they special sizes?
I do hand smocked and embroidered dresses and wondered if some of the sizes i do would fit these beautiful little girls dollchitchat/bigthink.gif

I don't have many himmie but i do know my 40inch Ntathi wears 12-18months trousers and 6-9month tops.
Gretchen and Linchen are lifesize 2 year olds and they wear age 2 clothes.
My Fina and Sina wear 3-6 months in tops and 12-18months in trousers but i always end up pulling in the waist because i can get the length in trousers but the waist is always too big.

Many thanks ladies
Yes i thought they were like life size little girls. If it would be ok with the moderators i will get around to posting a few of the larger sizes that i do and get comments from you all. I dont know whether smocked dresses would be too traditional for these little girls

Hi--

If you are sewing for these dolls, you would have the most success at making designs for the newer ones (2006 forward). There is a greater demand for clothing for the newest dolls AND their sizes are easier.

Try to make 2T outfits that are slightly smaller around the chest and neck opening. Most people like longer dresses, so add an inch at the hem.

Many people love smocked clothes.

Good luck!

I can get you some measurements, but give me a couple of days if that's alright.

There is a HUGE range of sizes, so if possible try to use a softer fabric that will fall nicely even if the doll is a bit smaller than the intended size. Another thing that might be helpful for selling your garments would be to design them so they don't have to be tugged over the doll's head and to make sure metal clasps, zippers and even plastic buttons do NOT touch the vinyl in the back. Other things to be wary of are material choices since darker more vibrant colors in velvets, for example, have been known to stain. So, it might be worth the time to layer the dress over a slip or to even sell a slip seperately or line the dress itself. Another option would be to create cute little leggings or something under the dress to give your garments more individuality.

I don't redress, but that is what I would look for if I did redress. I love smocking and cute embellishments as well such as a sweet lace trim or perhaps cutesy buttons on the bodice or even an under skirt to create a fuller skirt. If I could find a beautiful smocked outfit of my dreams I may be tempted to find a doll to wear it!

dollchitchat/ange4.gif I'll get measurements this weekend. If I don't post by Sunday (your time), please PM me to remind me. I have a bunch of stuff I need to do today, have appointments tomorrow and Friday but am free this weekend to do dolly stuff.

I think the most important thing you need to know is the vast majority of himmies are tall but quite thin, not proportioned like a real child at all.
Most people who redress the himmies do buy real kids clothes, usually that means either pinning the clothes where they are too big around the neck, chest and waist usually, or in the case of a smocked dress tigthening up the ties.
I have only ever had 4 himmies where i could buy clothes and they fit them perfectly, but i have had 18 himmies, so that shows you the vast majority are really skinny in proportion to their height.

Smocked dresses i think will sell really well, most ladies have a couple of these at least, they are so pretty, good lck with your new venture dollchitchat/pompomgirl.gif dollchitchat/pompomgirl.gif dollchitchat/pompomgirl.gif

Rinike Himstedt (2006) - Rough Measurements Over Clothes

Waist Circumference: 48 cm
Hip Circumference: 53 cm
Bodice Circumference (beneath armpits): 44.5 cm
Shoulders (Circumference of Shoulders and Bodice): 59 cm
Neck Circumference: 21 cm
Distance from Neck to Shoulder Joint: 4 cm (this is when the shoulder joint begins)

Rinike is about 35 inches tall which converts to 88.9 cm

You could probably make a dress to those proportions for any 2006 doll between 34.5 to 36.5 inches tall. I don't have any others from 2006, but perhaps others could take measurements for you. Dolls in the same line generally have similar proportions.

Kavita Himstedt (2005) - Rough Measurements Over Clothes

Neck Circumference: 21 cm
Distance from Neck to Start of Shoulder Joint: 3.5 cm
Circumference around Shoulders and Bodice: 55 cm
Circumference around Bodice (Beneath Armpits): 43.5 cm
Circumference of Waist: Slightly smaller than Rinike
Circumference of Hips: Slightly smaller than Rinike

The 2005's tend to have narrower shoulders than the 2006's. Kavita is roughly 93 cm tall at about 36.5 inches. You could probably create something that would fit both the 2005's and 2006's in this size range. I believe the 2007's may be taller and thinner as well.

A good thing to do is to perhaps create a dress and post measurements. Then, people can see if they are satisfied if it would fit their doll. Good luck!
