Being 53, and still regular periods and nothing too unsettling happening I smugly thought I was doing alright dollchitchat/splodge.gif

But since my gallbladder op I seem to be posessed by a mad moody insomniac dollchitchat/smilie_help.gif

Has anyone got any tips?

Diet

Supplements

Anything?

maybe it's post operative not menopausal. I'm 55 had first ever period probs in 99 had a Merena coil (highly recomended to anyone with heavy p's......don't suffer go get one!!!). I don't get usual age probs at all but have just stopped completely low doseage anti d's (lot of past stress re son and drugs and even more embrassingly being bullied at work, I didn't realise just thought person was hateful) and I find I'm much more tetchy than I was. I was asked to go back when said person left. I'm not sure if I'm tetchy because there's a lot to do at work (i'm tired doing long days) but there's none of the past nastyness, it left when she did! I can't get straight at home(two many dolls and associated items!!!!) When I was very depressed I let things go to pot it's a bit of a struggle getting straight.

How do we know if it's our age? On the down side my friend 59 this year was the same as you re periods etc she said a couple of months ago she seemed to be starting hot flushes dollchitchat/confused0068.gif I said I was hoping none now meant I wouldn't get them. We used to say thank God when we looked down the office and four of them would be fanning themselves (2 over 60, 1 late 50's on hrt, one my age). I know going back to work has been good for me mentally but I need to get in at eight to get parked easily but need to finish at about the same time at night to get peace and quiet to do a lot of the work. That's todays workloads though you do as much as you can, you learn you can't do it all, more and more is required with less staff, it's a no win game in the public sector anyway.
I need the declutter girl in to sort me out............ I think our back green ( 6 x normal back gardens at least) might just be big enough for all my rubbish dollchitchat/sign07.gif dollchitchat/confused0068.gif I'd love someone to do it but I couldn't stand the shame of going "public" dollchitchat/splodge.gif dollchitchat/2.gif

You may be right about the post op thing Jan I have certainly been having the weirdest dreams since then (won't frighten and bore you with them lol)

I weaned myself off anti depressants last year so I know how you feel.
I am a big fan of St. Johns Wort tablets (German Doctors actually prescribe these)
But they have to be the right strength

I can't imagine anyone wanting to bully you Jan!
I hate bullies dollchitchat/stick.gif
Glad that part of your life is over dollchitchat/AddEmoticons07635.gif

As for decluttering...with you there on this
I am a hoarder (aren't you Cancerian like me? dollchitchat/3r.gif )

I bought a book on feng shui...but I'd never stick to all that!

Diet for menopause is a bit of a mine field...
'Soy is good...'
'Soy isn't good...can bring on thyroid problems'

Sigh...back to the drawing board !

yep I'm a cancerian.............maybe we're just crabby dollchitchat/3r.gif

settle down..pour a drink...look at dolls.....who needs HRT dollchitchat/2.gif

life can be a right bummer sometimes but at least we're alive....I think that's the best way to think. Kick the past into touch, let the future happen and get on with today dollchitchat/pompomgirl.gif

I'm treating myself to a take away tonight because I'm also treating myself to starting at a diet class in the next couple of weeks just need to find a compatible with other things night........... might need to find a few classes to cover different nights dollchitchat/4.gif

Only thing that worked with me were 'KALMS'. I was having night sweats and hot flushes regularly and within a week of taking the tabs all those symptoms stopped. I also take cod liver oil and garlic tabs.
Now I'm only crabby and confused when I'm really tired but thankfully sleep much better lately. dollchitchat/4.gif lol xxxxxxxxx

Linda I had a hysterectomy because of my periods about 12 years ago, I was 35, Oh what a blessing that was. I was on hrt for about two years maybe three, I had hot flushes before the op, so I reackon I was menopausal then, My mum started early to. as is my sister.

What helped with my nerves as I also had panick attacks I drunk valerian tea, it's a bit bitter but very calming. Aloe vera tabs are good to.

Holland and Barret will be able to help you, just go in, tell them what you have been going through and thell be able to help. dollchitchat/bearhugblinkie1.gif

I hope your feeling better soon Linda, an Op can make you have nightmares and restless sleep, Kalms will help, and so will valerian or Chamomile tea. dollchitchat/morevdayb2.gif dollchitchat/morevdayb2.gif

dollchitchat/angel_sm029.gif Thank you girls, some good advice there dollchitchat/141.gif

Maryjo....night sweats are horrendous aren't they?
I had a chillow pillow (you fill it with water once and it remains cool while you're getting (trying) off to sleep.
But eventually mine has dried up (I had two) and I threw them out
Looking back I should have tried to refill them.

I noticed I have some slight hot flushes, and I'm "only" 45 ... is this the beginning?? I don't like this feeling at all and was wondering what to do about this. I don't like to take any "chemicals". Any alternative ideas? dollchitchat/animal-smiley-027.gif

tixiepixi- 10-15-2008
dollchitchat/bigthink.gif Some women do start their menopause at this age (some even younger)

Your Doc can do a blood -*test*-('") to find out for sure

I didn't want to go down the HRT route myself...but some women love it (needs thorough research IMO)

One idea is to research on the net self help books...there are some that tell you how your diet can help

As for hot flushes...you have my sympathy dollchitchat/141.gif

Wear layers...so that you can take some off when needed

I find running my wrists under a running cold water tap helps

And I know that if I was at my ideal weight that would help...but hey Rome wasn't built in a day!

If you think you may be menopausal,, I would be really careful about going
on any diet that requires you to LOWER your fat intake... As a drop in estrogen levels
is the primary cause of the symptoms of menopause ie.. hot flashes. depression..sleep problems
Fat produces estrogen.. so decreasing your fat intake to any degree will likely
only make your menopause symptoms worse. Hope you feel better soon
