Charla was born on the 16th of July 1996.It was an easy labour and problem free pregnancy though when she was born she was born with talapesia, both her feet were turned in and upwards. From day one she underwent physio.
She started to walk when she was nearly two years old with the aid of special splints and boots but was such a happy child and let nothing get her down.
Easter Sunday 1998 she came down sick and was rushed to hospital with meningitis type B that also spread to meningitis type C and she was given just a 3% chance of survival. She was placed in a drug induced coma and put on life support for 4 months. In that time she died twice but they managed to save her,she was threatened to have her leg amputated and her foot but time was a great healer.
In November the same year she came home, unable to walk or stand or even sit unaided. The doctors told me she would probably never walk again.
A year later she was out of her wheel chair and using sticks to get around. She was doing real well in school though she had missed the first year. She was the only kid in her class that could read.Theres not alot else to do when you cant move so she learned to read and write quicker than most.
She had a bit of stick through her school life as she has major scars on her body, mainly her legs but she didnt let it get her down at all.
On Saturday she competed in a two mile run to raise money for childhood cancer.!! She raised over 100 pounds for the good cause. She even donated the dolly pennies she had been saving to buy her own reborn stating it was more important that the charity get the money.!!!
Now you can see why i am so proud of her.So many kids feel they have been delt a bum deal but my 11yr old daughter is out there raising money for children she feels are worse off than her.She had to rest up all the following day and her legs are aching terrible but she made it.
I would like to thank God for sparing my baby girl and giving her such a positive outlook in life. She is such a caring and loving little girl and for that i am eternally greatful.
Thanks for listening to her story and i hope you can see why she is so special to us and everyone who knows her.
