Hi Ladies. Congrat's to all of you who have managed to stick to your diets/exercise regime's and lost some weight.

I need some motivation to lose some weight. What was your motivation to lose it? My weight is all around my stomach, and at the top of my arms. I had been walking 3 times a week, but haven't been for months. I just can't seem to get the "umph" to go. But then I went to buy some new summer clothes and a new swimsuit a couple of months ago, and was so distressed when I had to look at size 14/16 (Cdn)! Up until a couple of years ago, I wore 10/12 and was holding my weight at 140lbs (after I had a heart "event" in 1999, my dr. told me I had to walk 12 to 15kms a week). So I joined the Cardiac Artery Rehabilitation Group at our local Rec Centre. There is a doctor there and assistants, and it's strictly for heart and stroke patients. Anyway, I walked faithfully for the first few years, and kept my weight down to 140lbs, but a couple of years ago, I had to go to my parents place to look after my Dad after his eye and knee surgeries, as my Mum had had a stroke and couldn't look after him, and came home with someone else's body!!! I was so shocked to see a pot belly, that I went to my dr. to find out why it had suddenly appeared! Which it had. I didn't have it when I went to my parents' place, but I sure had it when I got back, and I was only there for a month! So, my dr. gave me some stomach meds as, when she pushed under my breast bone, it was REALLY tender. So she said that these meds would help the bloating go down. Well, nothing's happened and that was 2 years ago, and I'm still on stomach meds as well as my heart ones, and sleeping pills too.
Every time I eat, my stomach bloats up like I'm 13 months pregnant!! And it's really uncomfortable. I don't eat much, but you'd think I'd had a 5 course meal to look at my stomach!
I'm now 159lbs, and my dr. says I have to lose 20lbs! It's so disheartening when I don't eat a lot of chocolate or sweets, except those rice paper things with sherbert in them....Flying saucers, when I can find them at our new Sweet shop that carries English sweets. :)

So, my question is, what is your motivation to lose the lbs. And what hints can you give me please? Recipes?

Has anyone got that book of recipe's from the "Fat Belly Diet"? I was going to order it, but they only take credit cards.

Anyway, I wish you all continued success with your weightloss, and I am going to find my motivation, wherever it's got to. hahaha.

Oh, and hubby has been thinking we may go to Barbados in January, so I definitely don't want to put on a swimsuit looking like I do now!! It was bad enough in 2007 when we went!! I hated to put one on. :(

Well Annette, I'm no Doctor but have you considered food intolerances? ( dollchitchat/bigthink.gif actually I think some Doctors probably pooh pooh that notion!)

Have read in magazines ect that intolerance to wheat can cause bloating, as can dairy sometimes. But cutting large groups of foods out is not something you do without proper advice.

At the moment I am taking large amounts of wheatbran (for ahem...regularity) due to the pain relief I need for gallstone pain,
.Whilst this has helped me I am also worried as I know bran hinders absorption of calcium and zinc.

You can't win half the time can you?

So, as I can only eat certain things at the mo my recipe skills have gone out of the window!

It is important to drink enough water as the body can tell you you're hungry when it's thirsty.

Apart from that , there's the old trick of having a smaller plate.

Soups are filling.

Frozen fruit (bananas, cherries ect) takes longer to eat.

Have not heard of the book you mention, is it meant to be good?

Good luck! The very best advice is "Just DO it!" dollchitchat/2.gif
