dollchitchat/addemoticons558.gif Is there anyone on the forum who is taking Metformin tablets for diabetes. Whilst in hospital recently, it was diagnosed that I also have diabetes and am being treated with Metformin, just 1 tablet at teatime is making me feel really poorly, at night I cannot sleep due to griping stomach pains and I also have the trots. The diabetic nurse informs me that these symptoms can last a long time, and they want me to increase the dose to 1 at morning and 1 evening. I tried this last night and was in agony most of the night. I have told her to-day that I only intend to take 1 at teatime until it settles down. This morning I felt like s--t and couldnt pull myself together. dollchitchat/Christo_pull_hair.gif Any advice would be very welcome as I am at my wits end. Sheila.

dollchitchat/dccy.png Oh Sheila I feel for you! I have been taking Metformin for 5yrs. They were doubled up to the 850mg twice a day and I spent 3yrs unable to go out! dollchitchat/Christo_pull_hair.gif I sat on the loo all day with pains and the runs. I kept telling them how bad it was but they didn't listen so I decided I'd had enough and kept missing them in order to have a life out of the house and as a result I got really bad levels on my -*test*-('")s but they finally took notice! Now they have cut the Metformin down and replaced it with Gliclazide and now I'm doing well and also the runs have stopped. Hope this helps. Jean x dollchitchat/bearthrowingkisses.gif

I cant give you any advice on this ... but what I will say is ... I know its not easy when your ill and in pain ... DEMAND to change meds!!! or for something that will make it easier for you.

Take care and I hope it gets sorted soon

Metformin is used for PCOS women to help control their blood sugar levels and it does have some horrid side effects but they shouldn't last forever.
I know some ladies who took a low dose then built it up to their required dose which helped control the side effects.

dollchitchat/addemoticons558.gif Thank you Liz for pointing me in the direction of the Metformin website. It has certainly made interesting reading, I have lost 10lbs in 10 days since being on the drug and I am feeling it is helping to reduce the blood sugar. I was totally devastated when I was told I had diabetes, as I had always felt fit and healthy. Thanks Jean for your comments on the drug, and the other ladies that have offered help. It is great to be on a forum with ladies who can offer help and advice, the griping pain seems less intense to-day, but I have tried to eat heavier meals. I took all my frustration out yesterday on rooting my Jared head, I certainly felt mentally better. I think taking Metformin on top of major surgery has intensified the pain, have to see the specialist tomorrow dollchitchat/Christo_pull_hair.gif with a probable view of further surgery, so I am keeping my fingers crossed. dollchitchat/AddEmoticons1093.gif Sheila.

Sheila I hope you don't need further surgery. dollchitchat/dccy.png and tomorrow.
as for the new drugs, I really can't help. but if it was me, I would want to now all i can about it.
When I started on my Thyroid tablets I was still always hungry and it was pointed out to me I was eating the wrong foods, still too high in fast absorbing sugars. Once i curtailed my eating habits I was a lot better.
I hope you get it sorted out soon. dollchitchat/bearhugblinkie1.gif
