It was my Mums 90TH BIRTHDAY yesterday the 15th December and tho it was slightly marred by the fact she didnt GET OUT OF THE RESPITE HOME-as she CANNOT WALK STILL-she had OVERLOAD of her kids and their offspring ALL calling in with cards, flowers and pressies!!

Its totally heartbreaking to see your MUM go from a Full On Active VERY young for age lady- then having a fall-some might remember the disaster horror at the hospital to now a SUDDENLY over weeks VERY FRAIL cannot walk lady who needs Full On Nursing Care....Ooooohhh I so DONT want to reach that age!

She had a lovely time -and was completely worn out by the end of it-

So it was a Happy Time- -though a choker all rolled into one!

My Little Shire Horse-no longer can walk-bless her!!

Oh, Jackie, my dear friend - congratulations on your mum's 90th birthday!!!

I remember all that happened to your dear mum, and I have tried almost the same with my dear mum, who loved life too and was so full of spirit and positive thoughts too and who stayed brave till the end!!!

It sure is awful to see one's highly beloved mum lose her strength to get weak and dependent on other people's care. My highly beloved mum reached the age of 91 and spent the last two or three years in a wheel chair but she could walk to the toilet by means of a "rollator" (some kind of walker), but she had some grim falls too, making her even more disabled!!!

I feel a lot with you and your highly beloved sweet mum - and I send you both a lot of big squeezy warm hugs!!!!

It's sad that your mum couldn't get out for her birthday but I'm sure having her family around her was a wonderful present for her.

Oh bless you hun-you know EXACTLY what it feels like and I send you too many gentle hugs for your loss.. ...

She just KEEPS SAYING I want to go home to my bed and go- Ive had enough of it all now.... ...breaks your heart!

P.s Funny that...she has had a fall in hers too? I thought they'd keep her SAFE in there as she was falling at home??

Sounds like it was a very emotional day in a lovely way, but also very sad.

Jackie, I'm glad your Mum was at least able to enjoy her day and that she was surrounded by people who love her. It's very hard though isn't it? My lovely Dad died just after Christmas last year and this Christmas is going to be so hard for us. We all need to make the most of the people we love while they're here with us, they're so precious.

Happy belated birthday to your dear Mum, how wonderful that she is still with you all and able to enjoy her special day. My Mum is 87 and it is so tough watching them struggle on. Big hugs to you both

I'm sure she was exhausted by the end of the day, as you say a real shame that she couldnt be at home to celebrate, but I bet you and the rest of the family made it a really special day for her

Thank you very much, my dear friend!!!! Yes, my mum fell both at home and in the nursing home - I guess it is because they get out of bed without realising that they can't do it by themselves anymore!!!

It sure is sooo very awful for you to hear your happy, vivid mum give in like that - it breaks my heart, as I know how it is!!!! Please feel free to write to me, should there be anything that you want to talk to me about - as the time of life that you are now passing through is really sad and hard to be in!!!!
