SUSY IN ONTARIO- 05-07-2008
I would like to purchase my first bjd. However, I'm totally clueless about these dolls. Are these dolls only sold in asia? Is there any websites that deall in us or canadian dollars?

How much would a doll on average cost in us dollars?

I love Miriam's collection. Does anyone know where she finds her dolls, wigs and clothes?

Any help would be appriciated. As i said i feel in love with these dolls but i have no idea where to even start.

thanks Susy!

p.s. does anyone know of an canadian or usa dealers?

p.p.s. what's the difference between the bjd, volks and pullip dolls?

Hi Susy ^^
It's great that you're looking at BJD's they really are amazing dolls! I'm sure you'll be happy wit whoever you choose.
All compaines deal is USD or Euro.
Yes they are mostly in Asia, meaning Japan, Korea and now some in Hong Kong.
There are also one or two compaines which are in the USA like Goodreau.

They pretty much all have different prices but as a rough (very rough!) estimate here's a quick list

Tiny - 10-15cms £90
Yo-SD - 26-30cms £150
MSD 41-43.5cms - £250
SD 57 - 63cms - £400
Model 67-70cms £500

Seriously that is really rough but it will give you an idea.
From remembering Miriam's collection she had mostly sold out Volks limited editions for one of those you are looking at between £850 - £1500 depending on the seller and the exclusivity of the doll in USD you'd be looking at cheapest $1250 - $2500

I don't know of any Canadian dealers unfortunatly.

For Volks BJD and Pullip -
A Volks doll is a BJD - Volks is just a company that makes BJD's they are quite expensive and exclusive dolls to get hold of.
A BJDs is basically a elasticated strung doll with ball joints. Even though there are many different types of ball jointed dolls out there BJD is just teh short name for people who collect these Asian Ball Jointed Dolls. Sometimes calledd Dollfie aswell (Dollfie is a line of dolls that Volks make).
A Pullip is a plactic peg jointed doll which is machine maspreduced, whereas the BJD's are made by hand.

Sorry most of the prices are UK I live there and that's the way I remember them.
There are so many compaines now I have compiled a short list in the artists and retailers section it might be worth whle you looking at that. I am compiling a more comprehensive list right now but I don't have much time to get it done. Working on it though ^^
There is also an FAQ in this section whch mightbe worth looking over. Or if not just keep asking questions we have so many members here now that know there stuff about BJDs and we're all always willing to help where we can XD
Good luck!

H

How is your search,Susy?I am new to BJD,too and still learning. There are lots to learn about BJD.Someone here suggested me to go to Den of Angel(a BJD forum)and study, learn about BJD there. There are lots of info there for you to read.It is a very useful forum.I know you are eagerly wanting a BJD right now but don't know where to start.First, you have to decide what size of BJD you would like and how much you want to pay.Second,go to as many companies' website as you can to look for that special face that attracts your attention. This might take some time.
When you have spent time going through these companies, you will figure out what kind of dolls you want and you will naturally focus onto a few companies. The BJD companies are most in Japan,Korea and some from Hong Kong and China.

Den of Angels is a great place to search. If you are looking for a doll that is a reasonable price for a starter doll but still of good quality check out bobobie dolls: http://www.bobobie.com/ they make some wonderful resin dolls that are great quality from what I've heard and they have some pretty neat sculpts. I myself have been eyeing that 60cm girl named pandora for a while!!!! Good luck with your search. I LOVE my BJD's :)
