.The first thing I do is to apply the oil all over the area I wish the hair to go on, I always do the hair in the daytime as the light is so much better, unfortunately today is very dark and rainy so I have had to put the lights on.
.As you can see on the head there is a texture to the scalp, this is the oil that has been worked into the clay to make it very sticky, you have to manipulate the clay to get it like this, you will know when its ready as you can just about pick the head up with the palm of your hand when its sticky enough, this takes a few minutes but the result is much better.
.As you see I don't put the hair on in lines, I stagger the pattern, this makes the next layer blend in more naturally, to do this I place the hair on the head and slowly drag it down, leaving hairs as I go.
.As you see it blends in well.
.I do the same around the ears, as you see there are hairs on the ears, this is only a problem if you press them into the sticky clay, I leave them to the fan in the oven to blow them off, the same if there are any on the face.
.This is just to show the slow build up of layers, this takes time but well worth it, as you may have just spent up to a week getting the head as you want it.
.now for the front, this is always daunting, I hate to put the first strand on, there done it now, when sculpting a face you use baby pics, I always find this helpful with the hair too.
.I find it handy to have pointed tweezers at hand, if any of the hairs lie sideways I just pick them off.

.These are progress pics.
.When all the head is covered, I gently work my way round it pressing evenly as I go, don't forget to avoid the ears and face as you do this.
.Check the area all round, next step oven.
.Well this is the last one, and probably the only time you will ever get to see the inside of my oven, as its new and clean, this I can't help you with, as depending on how your oven is for temperature, and what clay you are using, your cooking method differs, I only know this is the worst time of all, as all your hard work lies in your oven, NOW STANLEY (my oven) do your best for me!
