First of all, I am sorry if this is not the right thread to post this.

I am getting Nerissa by Sebilla Bos in a week or so. She is made of "velvet touch". I have no idea what that means... so I wonder if I can pierce her ears when I get her. I do not want to damage her.

Did you ever figure out what velvet touch means? Is it the texture of the material she is made with? I can help with piercing vinyl ears but I am really curious what velvet touch means now myself :D

Velvet touch is just a description for a soft vinyl.

When I pierce the ears I use a broken rooting needle! The thick shaft is strong enough to force through the ear lobe, once you have a hole you can push the stud in as far as it will go.

Some people heat up the needle over a flame, this melts the vinyl...but it can also burn it & then the doll is ruined!

Unless you have a good eye, its an idea to mark a dot on each earlobe where you want to pierce, so that you have them even!

Ahh, I had a feeling that was it :)
I use a thumbtack- I heat it up a little just to make it easier to slide in- but you have to wipe it off quickly and then slide it in , I don't let the flame get near the vinyl!
I have not done our babies ears but lots of older kids :)
