Hi girls!

A little while ago Marie (Sunbeam) posted a thread about a trip to Kenya etc to help a very troubled and dangerous area.
Alot of you gave praise and cheered her on.

I am worried SICK about her going and so is HER FAMILY-its causing alot of tension there as you can well imagine.

Now Because I LOVE ole Marie. .Im posting this thread and asking for your Logical help here....

About 1-2 weeks the village she is about to visit was ransacked by these "whatever you call i murderers"..they RAPED THE WOMEN..SLICED OFF THE HEADS OF THE MEN..AND BEAT THE CHILDREN!!!!!!

The Embassy have TOLD Marie she can EXPECT NO PROTECTION over there!

PLEASE-PLEASE.. .post DO NOT DO IT MARIE here for her-I feel she is going to go now because she said she will-even though she has just had this FRIGHTENING news about the village..INDEED Marie being a white women- its EVEN MORE DANAGEROUS for her to go as seen AS AN INTRUDER/TO BE DEALT WITH by these murderers!!

Ive told her she can do GOOD here by collecting stuff and then get SOME other way of sending/delivering out to these places???
Her husband is at his wits end (rightly so)..and Ive told her PLAIN..how I feel..its complete MADNESS....she needs to NOT GO!!!!!!

So ladies Im asking all of you including all who gave encouragement for this trip to FULLY REALISE what she is going into to and tell her NOT TO GO!!

She doesnt KNOW Im posting this-but its cos I care "IVE GOT TO DO SOMETHING"!!!!!!!!

What good could Marie do in a place like this? It does sound horrific, so why does Marie want to go? It makes sense if you can help - really help, but wouldn't a new white person stand out and more likely attract attention that could be very negative?

There must be other ways of helping people, surely??

I do feel for you Jackie, and Marie's family too, and I wish Marie all the love and protection she needs, and hope that Marie can make the best decision for herself and her family...............

MARIE - I THINK IN A SITUATION LIKE THIS YOU NEED TO PUT YOUR OWN FAMILY FIRST, WHY MAKE THEM SUFFER WHEN THERE WILL BE VERY LITTLE YOU CAN DO TO HELP IN KENYA AND YOU COULD SO EASILY LOOSE YOUR OWN LIFE.

Sorry Marie but I agree with the girls. Its far far too dangerous for you. There must be plenty of ways for you to help from here. Perhaps we could all get our heads together and gather things that the people need out there. I'm sure I could find out more from my mum as they do alot with the church. My dad went to Africa a couple of times with the church to help and he saw some bad things etc.
So PLEASE Marie, we all care about you hun, stay safe at home with your family and friends.

It sounds far too dangerous to go at the moment, no matter how much you want to help. Perhaps you could help some other area of the world where you don't risk your life in order to help others? Life is too short anyway, don't make yours shorter Marie

Trying to step back from my emotions here and think logically.
Marie will do whatever she feels she must, for her own reasons, I do think it is a very brave thing to contemplate but I believe the most important thing is her family. They and their views must be listened to as she has a responsibility to them and should not cause them pain and anguish. If she were a single person with no responsibilities, then fair enough but personally I feel it would be very wrong to put loved ones through such a terrifying time.
That said, we love you Marie and are sick with fear for you xxxxx

I cannot tell you not to go as you must do what you feel is right, but please think very carefully about the danger and the risks. You will be no good to those people if you meet with a violent end, and although you feel that they need you- your family need you too!

I think its the case of "Ive said I'll go and I must and I need to help"...but even SHE is now very worried..I think she's stuck..between "I have to go and Should I go"..the family are going balistic-what seemed like a Good Cause..is actually a Receipe for a Disaster..Men Killed..Women Raped and Children Beaten..this has ALL JUST HAPPENED and its where she's going!!!!

We ALL get these Deep MUST DO SOMETHING feelings-but we must take a more SERIOUS look at the WHOLE PICTURE....Family-Safety-Will it do ANY good at all..I mean going IN..could actually make it worse for those people..cos they PAY by being attacked-multilated etc...the muderous group that are running amock in these areas!!

Like someone said I think it was Kathryn..there are other places she could visit-safer places-where help is needed for clothing etc....

What is going on over there has been happening for a long time and nothing has changed..regardless of what anyone has tried to do?
Just more deaths!

I think this has become a SERIOUS problem within her family with her-and I just need her to see NO ONE would think she failed by not going???

Marie you are listening to your heart and you want to go and help, you are a good samaritan, and a good caring person.
Please listen to all your family and friends, step back and look at it all again befor your deside what you want to do.
The news isn't good about the country right now, maybe if you could waite untill its better news and you will have support out there.
Its fool hearty to go it alone in these countrys you hear of horror stories every week.
Your poor family are going to be very worried about you if you go, is it realy worth upsetting the people you love.
There are charity agencies who deal with situations in these places abroad,Oxfam ect, could you not contact them and maybe help this side of the water instead.

please please think carefuly what you want to do and how best to achive it, don't go into this situation with blinkers on, its your life your putting at risk.

Well...Marie...i am FULL IN with any fundraising or help of ANY kind you want to do here at home (UK and US) and I can brainstorm along with you for that as well. I am thrilled that you want to help hon and i do too...this IS an important issue and I know you so want to help. Like me, i feel it is my duty on life or something. BUT, you must also think of your safety and yourself hon. also your family. it is very scary and dangerous.

I will do ANYTHING in my power to help hon, you know it to be so, as we have talked. BUT please rethink.

Marie has told me today that she may not be on for a bit...getting some things at home sorted out...so please just keep her in your thoughts. I will send this message of mine via email, maybe she will come on long enough to check them. I wish her luck, please hold her in your thoughts!

Thanks Elisabeth-yes I know you are talking-thats really good-but last night she was still going..but UNSURE.. and Im WORRIED SICK and so are her family..
I know she cares for you alot-so hopefully will listen to the pros and cons....

Irene is right there are organisations that deal with these sort of things and people can contribute help THRO them. This is an EXTREMELY VOLATILE AND DANGEROUS place she is thinking of going to ..WE all want her SAFE!
