thing about SOME resins for me is the shininess, i HATE how shiny some of them are.

I have 4 gunzel resins, one is a cheap one, the other from the artist line, 2 of which are in my siggy dollchitchat/AddEmoticons1093.gif dollchitchat/AddEmoticons1093.gif dollchitchat/AddEmoticons1093.gif
NONE of them are shiny!

I have a very, VERY, VERY cheap (£50!!!!!!!) resin girl by Jane bradbury, her quality is simply amazing for the peanuts i paid, sculpting, detailing, amazing for the money and NO SHINE!

I have jessamyn kish, full resin, a real cutie and best of all NO SHINE!

H has 11????? Full resin bjd's, all gorgeous and again NO SHINE!

My darling Makenzie on the other hand was the most expensive of all the resin dolls, she has a smile that lights up the world, but unfortunately so does her shininess! dollchitchat/2.gif Its the one thing i hate about her dollchitchat/AddEmoticons07628.gif , to me this really detracts from the realism of her. dollchitchat/AddEmoticons07628.gif

WHY is she soooooo shiny???????? Why are some resins shiny and others not???
Is it the resin or whatever is used to make them?? Or is it the finish thats applied for protection after???????
Which ever it is why are some shiny and others not?
I think if its the finish then artists really need to look at the other artists and what finish it is they use as i do think the shininess factor could be a big turn off for many collectors, particularly for baby dolls.

Your views and answers please dollchitchat/AddEmoticons0762.gif

Hmmm... it could be the resin but most likely it's the spray they use afterwards.
I went through 4 brands before I found one that was not so shiny. IRL resins are not as shinny as in the pictures (at least mine aren't).
Then my order from China finally arrived. I bought Mr. Super Clear which is the best they say. It took 4 WHOLE months to arrive via boat. Unfortunately I had already sent two of the resins out and they are little bit shiny :( but I would say no more than silicones I can seen.
But MSC is NOT shiny at all. See my post (in a bit) showing my Asian resin.. No shine whatsoever.
HTH.

My Tasha Edenholm Piper ( my siggy baby )is a little shiny but not very I don't think , I do wonder if it's the finish she has on her ?

You ladies must have muscles like body builders to be able to lift these resin babies and toddlers. dollchitchat/confused0068.gif
They all are lovely kids though, and Catherine I thought your siggy baby was either silicone or re born vinyl. I would never had believed she was Resin.
The same with yout kids Cindy, I wouldn't have thought they were Resin, but I knew you liked Resin. dollchitchat/AddEmoticons12628.gif dollchitchat/bearhugblinkie1.gif

Hee hee, I was amazed at the weight too when I got my first babies back... Each baby weighs 8lbs :) I think it's the perfect weight for this size though and it feels really nice in your arms... ;)

Great thread Cindy, the shinyness was bugging me too after i saw your Makenzie and a LTR resin.
I'm happy to hear not all resins are like this.

I have Ruby by Marissa May in resin and she is not shiny. I was very pleasantly surprised by the resin - having only had OOAKs and silicone before - but I really like it and would definately consider another resin.

Thankyou for your answer Tina and trust me Makenzie IS this shiny, infact probably more so than in the pics my camera must have been playing up dollchitchat/2.gif But i don't care as i love her to death, she has a very realistic face and two baby teeth which i adore dollchitchat/AddEmoticons1093.gif dollchitchat/AddEmoticons1093.gif dollchitchat/AddEmoticons1093.gif but i must say i would have loved her even more without the shine dollchitchat/2.gif

Yes you could trust me to put a dampner on things dollchitchat/3r.gif but these things need to be discussed don't they, obviously i am only lady in the world who has a shiny, shiny resin, for me personally i don't like the shine at all, but because i adore Makenzie i put up with it, however if i was to buy another resin i would ask first how shiny it was going to be and then decide not to purchase if it was going to be shiny, cause as i said it does detract from the realsim somewhat dollchitchat/2.gif

Gosh no there is not even a tiny bit of shine on her, she lovely, if you have a shiny doll there is no hiding it from the camera, your baby looks perfect.

Tracy thankyou for your suggestion, i did initially think about sanding her, with the really really fine sandpaper, but hubby thought it could possibly damage her and i don't want that as i really love this baby, what matt spray would that be? Not sure i'd use it cause as i say i don't want to ruin he in any way.
