What's the difference between a "crochet" and a "knit"? When I see outfits made of yarn they all look the same to me. dollchitchat/sign07.gif

Sorry I'm knitting and crocheting impaired. dollchitchat/AddEmoticons0761.gif

Shawnah this could be difficult to explain...crochet you just use a hook, and knitting is done on two needles.....the look is usually quite different, crochet tends to be more open work.

Hope this helps

So, crochet has more holes? dollchitchat/AddEmoticons07612.gif

Can knitted outfits have holes? Can crocheted outfits be tighter?

Liz- 08-11-2008
Yes crochet has more holes and knitting does too if you drop loads of stitches by accident. dollchitchat/AddEmoticons07630.gif
Here's more info for you.

Which do you prefer to do - crochet or knit? And why?

And which do you prefer to buy? A crocheted or knitted outfit? And why?

Well i can't crochet so knitting is the one i prefer. My granny taught me when i was little and so it's why i've never learnt to crochet.
Knitting gives me a homely feel which i love about buying knits too.The thought of having something home made for a special baby is lovely.
Some crochet outfits i love too but i'm very picky as to which ones i would buy if they became available.

I can knit and crochet and i like knitted outfits best but i also love crochet thread booties and hats

forevermummy- 08-11-2008
dollchitchat/angel_sm029.gif I can do both but hate my own work lol

dollchitchat/angel_sm029.gif I like to knit outfits and end to use crochet for blankets and shawls

dollchitchat/angel_sm029.gif Some ladies on here do fantastic knitting and crochet work really delicate and beautiful

dollchitchat/angel_sm029.gif Whichever you do you need a lot of patience - i find the pattern more difficult to work out than i do to actually create anything

dollchitchat/angel_sm029.gif I always sit here for ages writing it all out onto a sheet of paper then i cross it off as i go along

dollchitchat/angel_sm029.gif I recently knitted a shawl .... never ever again lol

I can do both, I love crochet for my little Kish, I also love crochet booties and hats and blankets. I love knitted cardi and leggings and the occasional knitted dress.
I have seen a dress with a crochet top and material bottom, must try this. both are getting harder to do and I have loads of wool and fear I may not get to use it all before I can't knit or crochet ever again. so although I love doing both, there not good hobbies for long periods of time if you have disabled hands. dollchitchat/stick.gif dollchitchat/stick.gif

I personally prefer kniiting but I know a lot of people prefer to crochet because it works up faster and there is less sewing up.
I was taught to knit as a small child and try and pass on the skill to anyone interested.
I have tried so many hobbies, but always return to knitting. It relaxs me!

I prefer knit stuff. I prefer the tighter stitches, and the overall look of knit stuff as opposed to crocheted stuff. I am actually currently trying to teach myself how to knit :) (lol with the help of a book) But I honestly have never owned anything that was hand knitted!! So we will have to see how my venture goes haha! They are so beautiful, and I have always thought that and been kind of drawn to them. My mom used to crochet, and she taught me once, but I don't remember how to do it anymore LOL. :)

I knit and crochet, I love both, but its much quicker to crochet, and if its crochet I much prefer it to be in cotton, actually I also love knitting in cotton too as its much more lacy, I love lacy, dollchitchat/AddEmoticons1093.gif dollchitchat/AddEmoticons1093.gif

I can do both but to which i prefer, i couldnt tell you... depends on what it is. One funny thing i know is that my grandmother was brilliant at crochet and a very good knitter, when she passed away i inherited all her old knitting patterns, when i asked about crochet, my pop told me that there were none, she just copied patterns from family and friends.
I have quite a large amount of crochet that she did and also pieces that my great grandmothers did. Now i am 55 so you can imagine how old these are!!!!
